From mom, I learned that it’s not about what you are given in life to work with; it is what you do with what you are given.
I have only recently come to appreciate that mom’s life was not defined by her circumstances.
It was defined by her living.
In that respect, for me, she was larger than life.
And will always be.
– Me, Tuesday afternoon, at the celebration luncheon, for mom.
I was going to unpack this a bit, to say what I mean, more plainly, more directly.
I may, later.
Just not now.
But you are most welcome to comment.
For if you are someone who knows someone who has lived life with dignity and strength, despite circumstances that belied those traits, then you knew my mom.
It’s amazing how a mother’s silent character speaks louder than their lessons spoken.
Spot on, Tony. Thank you!
Such a beautiful sentiment.
Thank you Ashley!
so glad for her joy.
So glad for the way she lived her life!
I wish I had had the pleasure of meeting her! From what Dan told me, we shared several common interests… I am so sorry for her loss, but so happy that you had such an awesome mom for so long! It takes an amazing mom to raise an awesome son like you! We love you.
She was, if this makes sense, a quiet, unassuming tour de force! Amazing the influence she had on so many. Including me. I miss her.
And oh my gosh thank you for your kind words! Love you too!
What a wonderful woman and approach to life!
I wish I would have met her but I know that she lives on through you, John.
Thanks for sharing.
And what an awesome responsibility that is, Pete; to live my life in honor of her; that others, like you, and Laura (commenter just prior to you), can catch a glimpse of her specialness…
Thank you for sharing!
John – no unpacking necessary. A true tribute, to be appreciated and loved and defined by living. There is no greater accomplishment!

Kevin, in pondering your comment, I think you might be right: no greater accomplishment than being appreciated and loved and defined by living … Well said!
Thank you!
